In the some of the eastern philosophies it is believed that the body has an energy infra-structure, not unlike the blood or nerve network, recognized by western medicine. This energy network is also believed to have energy centers The network and centers are often referred to as meridians and chacras, which are the main roads and points for the energy traveling through, throughout the body. Healing arts like Shiatsu, Acupressure and Acupuncture and Chiropractic is working with this model to introduce or facilitate healing. In Reiki we work with the assumption that so called life energy ("Ki" or "Chi") can be accessed and channeled (by a person trained in this art) and passed on on to people, animals and basically everything else.

Another theory is that every energy center (chacra) spins at it's very own speed (or RPMs if you will). The higher the chacra, the faster it's spins. Dispositions in your emotions or physical wellness, will cause the energy center to change it's "RPMs" to a less ideal speed, which is either too fast or too slow. In such a case the Reiki practitioner will his hands onto the chacra for a "tune up"

In other words: In Reiki we believe that positive life energy, brought into the surrounding area of poor energy field (by the hands of a Reiki practitioner), will eventually have a stronger vibration and resonate with with a slowed down or hyper active chacra. By using this method, the chacra will be eventually re adjusted and work at a naturally healthy state. We have 7 main chacras, counting from the base of the torso. each chacra has its own vibration and function, even colour. Besides so seven main chacra we have A LOT of side and even developing chacras, often located in the area of joints or in between established chacras.

Below you can see a rough explanation of these 7 chacras. Please be aware that this chart is VERY basic and needs a lot more explantion, however, it's a good start for basic understanding.
